Bold or Promiscuous?

In the 18th century, when European women were new to the workplace (moving from agriculture to factory jobs), they were written about in a way that suggested they were promiscuous. Men believed that women are not as "smart" as them to carry out labour and the same functions men could. It was said, that women are actually prostitutes, and that's how they make the money instead of working. These ridiculous beliefs about women's promiscuity are still prevalent today.

Remember, those days when we had Hi5 and Orkut and public chatrooms? When people would ask, A/S/L please? I cannot tell you how many times I have been asked the question if I am a virgin. Excuse me, what correlation does the breakage of my hymen have to with anything? Men think it is their birth right to use and abuse women who are sexually active. Why? Just because they choose to use organs the way they are supposed to be used, just like yours? It really aggravates me to think how men can be so ignorant to think of a woman as a slut if she happens to answer the question, "No, I am not a virgin."

It's a personal choice. Get over it. Being a virgin doesn't make you a saint. And being sexually active does not make you Satan. I choose abstinence for personal reasons. I have been doubted as promiscuous because I am knowledgeable about sexuality. Well, I took a bunch of courses in university and I READ. So, leave me alone. Just because I read about it doesn't mean I go do it. I remember how I was bullied in high school on my 16th birthday. I was bullied again in university for the same reason. Why? What if I wanna save it for that one person? How is it YOUR concern? It's mine. It's my body. I can choose to be sexual or non-sexual. No one else has a right to say anything.

If women are bold enough to admit to their past relationships and their sexual history, they are considered promiscuous. And the double standard remains... when guys are considered stud-ly to score as much as they want, and that adds to their masculinity. If a man can be horny 10 times a day, so can a woman. You both have hormones. In my eyes, that woman is NOT a slut. It's a woman who is bold and confident enough to go ahead and do what she wants with her, without giving a shit about what people think.

My friend wanted me to write about this topic, as it is of great relevance to her. Honestly, men should have no business asking women such questions, if they don't have the balls to listen to the answers. They usually ask these questions to find out what the girl has done in her life, so they can start where the previous boyfriend left off. That's how some men can think. I've seen tonnes of them in high school.

The amount of men a girl dated does not make her promiscuous. This double standard kills me. A man can be dating his 21st girlfriend and still not be considered promiscuous. Dating back to the 18th century working women, who actually earned their salaries by intense labour in factories were still considered prostitutes. Likewise, I feel that women are still considered prostitutes for their bold belief/knowledge about sex/amount of partners dated etc.

Why do men judge a woman based on the amount of partners she's had and her sexual capabilities? No one judges a man that way. This perception of a "good woman" back from the old age is still around? If a woman wants to be open, confident, and comfortable with her sexuality - LET HER BE. A man with that kind of a judgemental attitude should not even be given a chance to get with that girl. And the funny thing is, even though women may be promiscuous or not, men think they always have the license to sleep with them, without refusal.

  1. This is one of the stupidest double standards we have today.
To those who disagree, do not give me your pathetic key and lock analogy.

If a girl is a slut because she has slept with 2 guys, you must be Queen Slutbag because you've slept with Lord knows how many girls.

Likewise, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a man who chooses to be a virgin... It has nothing to do with his masculinity... If you like putting your dick in everything that moves, doesn't mean every one else does.

But Tina, men aren't the only ones who label women sluts based on their sexual history. Women are the worst women haters. It's bullshit no matter WHO does it.

It's your body, it's YOUR choice. Your PAST sexual encounters are in the PAST... Your present boyfriend/girlfriend shouldn't be giving you shit for it.

But whatever, if you want a virgin, you had better be a fucking virgin yourself. That's all.
