Whenever I open my big mouth, I get in trouble. I am gonna open it anyway.
I just read an article in the Toronto Star about visible minorities "whitening" up their resume by using names that sound, uh, Caucasian to UP their chances of employment. Forget employment, chances of having their resume considered.
It's a no-brainer that there are more people than jobs, especially in the GTA.
They say that the people you hang out with have a great deal of influence on your attitude.
Not everyone has an inherently positive outlook on life, which is absolutely okay. I used to be one of them but I improve every year by making little changes. Everyone is different. There are people who might think of the worst possible scenario first. There might be others who think about the best case scenario or the most likely scenario. I am sorry I am saying this - but avoid the energy vampires - oh, the drama! Negativity can drain your positive energy. Avoid these people.
Here is what I feel:
Regardless of your style to manage stress and emotions, daily practice of incorporating positive thoughts into your life can make a difference. Every time I feel down, I always read motivational quotes and feel inspired. Sometimes, I'll save them on my phone and look at them when I am feeling like crap.

Self-talk goes a long way. No pity parties please.
The goal is to get excited about possibilities and work towards making them a reality.
Don't get negative about a job you interviewed for and did not land. Do your best every single time you go for an interview, but do not come home and spend 5 hours begging for you to get it. You've done your part - the interview. Now, it's up to the employer. If you sit and worry for hours on end, that still won't change their hiring decision.
De-clutter your mind and stay focused. You need to carve out a space in your head that focuses on the GOOD. You will be amazed at the new-found confidence that it brings you. Honestly, don't be hard on yourself. It's not worth it.
And now the MOST important point - Do not compare yourself to others. Everyone is different and has different strengths, responsibilities and interests. Don't let the successes of others bring you down or the failures of others give you a false sense of superiority. Because that is pretty shallow. Do your best for YOURSELF.
