Wedding Series: Jumbled Word Vomit

I've been stuck with this horrible viral flu from the last 6 days. I've gotten better but a total recovery is still far. At a crucial time like this, I would like to be up and running. Instead, I am stuck with a sore throat, chest congestion, blocked nose and drowsiness.

This morning, I woke up and headed towards my Keurig. I needed a nice cup of coffee. I felt like I was cheating on my coffee because I had 3 cups of Honey-Lemon Green Tea a day over the last week (for my sore throat). I lost 4 lbs over the last week by being in bed. I don't know how. Probably, because I had no appetite for anything. I had soup and a slice of multi-grain bread everyday for dinner. Lunch was green tea and crackers. And breakfast was a fruit (banana or apple). Today, I finally feel like I have my appetite back. I am gonna be eating proper from now on.

I was tired of being in bed so I decided to utilise my time by creating some checklists yesterday. The day before, I packed away 2 suitcases. This month, I am on a mission to divide my room's contents into 3 parts. One, things that need to be taken away to the wedding. Two, things that need to be taken away to my new house. Three, things that either need to be discarded or to be used in the next couple of months.

I created a couple of different checklists and I am thinking of posting them for anyone that needs help. I am also trying to put together a list of my bridal trousseau. It's better to think and visualize how you want to look for each event than to sit in a store trying to figure out what to buy. I am creating different folders on my tablet for each occasion such as "Mehndi" or "Pre-Wedding Party." I will have a different folder for accessories and jewellery. When you go into a store, it's easier to show them what you are looking for rather than explaining it. They will be able to tell you if they have it right away. That way, you do not waste time. The goal is to flick through the designated folders on the tablet as I am going shopping for each event.

As for shopping... I get a lot of messages in my inbox asking if I am done all my shopping and packing. I cannot be more thankful to all my friends who care and ask for my well being every step of the way. A huge hug to you guys. So, the answer to the question is:- Yes, I am done 85% of my shopping. I actually didn't go crazy shopping because I spent a fortune on winter clothes last season when I was working in Edmonton. Basically, most of everything I earned went towards shopping. I have a lot of sweaters, cardigans, full-sleeved knit tops, hats, scarves, boots and things from last winter that I didn't end up wearing. So, I didn't have to purchase much for clothes. Although, I spent close to $1,100 on makeup which I collected since May. That was quite a splurge. But I can never have enough makeup =D

I took advantage of semi-annual clearance sales to do my honeymoon shopping. I got 9 sundresses and a couple of tanks and tees to wear with shorts. I got all my swimwear and cover-ups along with a beach hat, beach bag and cute flip-flops. I shopped for my sleep-wear and lingerie as well. I actually packed my honeymoon suitcase already, lol. It's sitting off in my closet with a checklist enclosed. I am gonna leave it here because I believe we will be coming back to revive ourselves for a day or two before we go anywhere. Plus, I need a spa day here to fix up my hair, skin and nails before I go anywhere.

A lot of other stores such as Spring, Aldo and Sears had crazy sales for shoes 3 months ago. I got 6 pairs altogether (sandals, booties, heels and wedges). Basically, if you guys know me... I am a sale-girl. I take complete advantage of sales. On my recent trip to US, I shopped for all my toiletries and stocked on doubles. We mainly went for gift shopping for others so I was on a budget for myself. I don't know what else brides are supposed to shop for, lol. I got a couple of handbags but I am not planning on carrying extra luggage. I went to Yorkdale with mom yesterday and got a hot pink MK. Hot pink and I are best friends. Basically, I feel like I have everything I need. But somehow, I still keep thinking I missed out on a couple of things. That is classic me - always uncertain.

I am putting together a checklist for brides who are having a destination wedding or a wedding out of their home-country. I am trying to be reasonable and eliminate carrying extra luggage. At weddings, you get tonnes of gifts. Unless you're planning to pay $100 for an extra suitcase, you gotta be wise and pack accordingly. I promise to post all my checklists here! Every time I think of blogging... I back off thinking... I will type 4,000 words because I have SO MUCH TO SAY!

Yesterday... while I was coughing away in bed... I decided to put together a song-list for the DJ. Four years ago... we had a DJ who sucked completely for my mom and dad's anniversary. This time, I wanna be prepared for a disaster that could occur. I am putting together a list of music for the pre-wedding party and the sangeet. Most of you might think I am obsessed with list-making, and I am not ashamed to admit it. Yes, I have a problem, lol. Could you believe I already set aside my outfit for the airport? I must be on the verge of 'mental.' My worst fear is to forget something important. No one is gonna take a flight back to get it. And if it's not available later, I am screwed. This is why I am investing time into lists.

Another thing that I can't seem to decide... should I have another photoshoot? I was thinking to do a mini 'Save the Date' photoshoot in a fall theme. We had a summer shoot last year. We already have a love song. I don't wanna repeat any of it. But I wanted to do a 'no-fuss' save-the-date photoshoot with maybe 10-15 good pictures... nothing too fancy. Thoughts?

Also, a sad little story... you've probably heard this phrase before, "You are what you eat." On our 3 day family trip, all we ate was junk food. It was total crap - McDonalds, Pizza Hut, and other fast food joints. I had 3 huge zits on one side of my cheek overnight. My skin looked disgusting when I came back. I had to detox for 3 days to be able to look at myself in the mirror. Something is wrong with that country. McChicken sandwiches for a dollar and 20 chicken nuggets for $4. Junk food is dirt cheap and the nation's health is in serious trouble. I've never seen as many overweight people in one city before. Overweight is an understatement. I mean OBESE. I frankly ate McDonalds after a LONG time and I felt gross. I am still in the process of correcting my skin of the damage that's been done. Lots of fluids and chia seeds detox! Cleansing teas are also becoming my fav these days. I heard on the radio that our temperature is gonna drop to a 9 next week. I know I will be having lots of green tea. I know all the brides are on top of their health game - taking care of their physique, skin, hair and nails. I am the only one sitting here doing nothing. I haven't worked out in a month. This viral infection has really drained me out but it's my goal to start something today. At least a 60 minute walk if nothing else.

I've rambled on quite a bit.. so why not a little more? =P My apologies for a boring post. I've watched 3 movies over the last week. Mardaani, Raja Natwarlal and Mary Kom. I strongly recommend all 3 of them. I love Rani Mukherjee so Mardaani was a treat for me. It was a different kind of a story and I love the police chase in any given movie, so that was also a plus for me. It's a movie about child trafficking for prostitution purposes and how Rani goes about chasing the gang. Raja Natwarlal is about a robbery. Paresh Rawal is one of my favorite actors... he puts life into any movie! If you guys like to watch a movie with twists and turns... that keeps you entertained - watch Raja Natwarlal starring Emran Hashmi. Mary Kom needs no introduction because the marketing for this movie was on top. The movie stars Priyanka Chopra - it's a tribute to MC Mary Kom, the boxer from Manipur. The story line is similar to Bhaag Milkha Bhaag depicting the struggles of an aspiring boxer but less entertaining than Milkha. Still worth a watch for Priyanka's acting and the accent that she puts up. And there aren't many movies with a female sports lead - so it is inspiring for many women out there. That was my 2 cents on these recent releases.

I hope everyone is having a fabulous week so far. Good luck to everyone that went back to school or onto new jobs :)

  1. I don`t think you should do another photo shoot for save the date. Instead you could use the money AND time towards something more necessary or wanted. I am sure there are a lot of expenses during the wedding and post wedding period. For save the date maybe you could get dolled up and click a nice photo yourself or use one of the old ones? Maybe of your first anniversary or your first photo with him or of a really special moment? But at the end of the day this is your time so if you really want it go for it ;)

  2. Dear Anonymous,
Thank you for the great tip. You are absolutely right. We don't have the time for a shoot now. We are way too far along the timeline. This is a short-term notice wedding. It was finalized just 3 months ago, so we've had to race on with everything. The expenses are over the desired budget already, so we cancelled the shoot idea. We were thinking... we'd go to a nice park and dress semi-formal... take a friend along who can do an amateur natural photosession without being too posey! I'll photoshop the date on there and have just one or two put up on social media. We have a friend who is a graphic designer who is willing to click our pictures with no fee. We'll see how that works out.
