The good: The restaurant was just amazing. I don't think I have ever entered such a beautifully decorated building to eat food. It is a historic building from the late 1800s and it is decorated with European art decor from that era. It is absolutely gorgeous! Sadly, that's about it..
The bad: There's quite many. First of all, if you're young (I am talking below 30) don't even bother going there. It is a place where a lot of old people dine. I don't know why that is. I was probably the youngest girl in the entire restaurant. If you're like 65, it's cool. I feel like the waiters were sort of ageist? :S They gave much more attention to old couples and white people (racist too, perhaps). Everyone stared at me and him when we entered the restaurant, like we're some sort of aliens or something. We were the ONLY brown people in the entire restaurant. The birthday boy was Asian (Chinese) and he was the only one with his group of friends, and the entire population there was white (including the work staff of course).
The waiters were so goddamn snooty. We arrived late for dinner because we were travelling from Brampton and we were asked to order right away. Everyone had just had their salads and appetizers, and we were told to order right away. I was talking on the phone (my mother) while the waiter rudely said "You need to order now because we need time to cook it!" It was more like a threat rather than a request. I had to put my mom on hold to speak to him. Hello? Can't you wait two minutes? No courtesy, I swear! They were just in a rush to get us out of there. We were asked for drinks as soon as we sat down. I was expecting I'd get water first and get time to look through the menu. Apparently, that's not how it works. Our dessert came soon after our dinner (within a few minutes). The food was ridiculously overpriced. And it wasn't even that great. The only good thing was the decor and the building itself. The atmosphere is so un-friendly and not my cup of tea. I don't wanna sit with a bunch of oldies (sorry, not trying to be mean) and get stared at. I felt like we were being looked down upon because we were the only brown people there. They probably thought.. "Oh.. Indians are cheap. What are they doing at an upscale place like this?" Umm, we also earn and have the right to spend it in a lavish restaurant if we wish to, thanks.
Anyway, I am never going back there again. So, that settles this issue.
I was craving sugar and I wanted dessert (and I didn't even eat there) which made me hungry. And I made him drive all the way from Don Mills to Vaughan to go to Moxies for my favorite, White Chocolate Brownie Ice Cream. There was a 20 minute waiting, and I couldn't wait. Then, we went to Jack Astors, and there was waiting again! Then, we headed off to Demetre's, which I spotted nearby and there was a 35 minute wait! It was a Saturday night, but are you kidding me? It wasn't even that late! Thennn, he drove us all the way from Vaughan to Rexdale (Dairy Queen) to find out that it closed. In the end, I said.. "Forget it, every time I crave something so bad, I never get it." And then, as a last resort.. he spotted Royal Paan, and got me Faluda Ice Cream :)
I don't know what kind of a person will drive half-way around town for his girl to fulfill her craving. Oh, I know what kind - the BEST kind! (As stated in the blog title earlier :) Yes, I just bragged! <3
Okay, pulling myself out of those wonderful memories, and the bad review of the restaurant.. I gotta get some readings done for tomorrow. Night night people!
