My life in words, many words.

Dear life, stop being douchey.

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone has a fabulous day today. Rain is a hassle for many today. I see grumpy faces and tonnes of colourful umbrellas. I love rain. And we've had it dry for a few days, so I am welcoming the rain.. as long as it is not snow. There is going to be light snow tonight until tomorrow morning, and it will get colder by the end of this week. Yes, I heard the Chum FM weather forecast on my way to university, lol.

Even though I promised not to get anything from Timmies, I just got myself a White Hot Chocolate with a Tea Biscuit. It's the weather <3 I was up till late last night, researching topics for an Independent Study Project (it's a course). I didn't mention this earlier, but there's another sort of glitch in my graduation. I am missing a 400 level course (4th year credit) this year. And I could not register for any because of the messed up schedule, there is a conflict in every course I am trying to adjust. It's really not my fault. Apparently, all sociology courses are being offered on either Tuesday or Thursday this semester. So, as an alternative, I was told by the Registrar to try for the Independent Study (you need an average of 70% in all sociology courses to register) and a proposal of research with a list of primary and secondary sources. Then, you need to find a professor who will agree upon supervising the study. You have to make sure that the area/interest of study is in compliance with the professor's specialty as well. I stayed up for 3 hours last night researching multiple topics. My topics have a lot to do with my interest, and not his. His interests are pretty much all theories of delinquency. After looking at numerous topics, I narrowed it down to two choices. The first one is of my interest and the second one is of the professor's interest.

1. Explaining female delinquency, and how media portrays youth crime in a bad light which is not exactly in accordance with actual crime statistics. Female violence is often over-reported in media, especially within teenagers but the truth is that only about 15-20% of ALL youth crime is committed by females. And the rest is clearly young males. Yet, the media discourse portrays females as "folk devils." How is this becoming a social problem today?

2. Peer delinquency is very well explained in theories of youth crime. Family risk factors also contribute to the "push" into juvenile delinquency. I want to study a comparison of peer risk factors vs. family risk factors in a variety of criminological theories to determine which is at a greater risk of juvenile delinquency.

I skipped my lecture, because I was late this morning (my brother left home late to drop me, and then we had to stop for a train at the railway tracks for 15 minutes - ridiculous). I arrived an hour late at university and figured I might as well work on this because the meeting with the professor is at 12. My graduation depends on this, and I am really stressed about it. I don't know whether he will approve of it or not. And if he doesn't, then what happens? Tomorrow is the last day to add any course on ROSI and the coordinator said I have to get this approved today. I still have to make a convincing argument in my proposal and list all the sources. Most importantly, I have to make the choice between the two topics above. Wish me luck guys, I really need it this time :(

  2. Holy shit. It is fucking intense, eh?
I JUST met with the professor, and he agreed upon supervising it (although his behaviour suggested he was a little skeptical) because I never spoke up in his class last semester, LOL.

Anywaaaay, now it has to go through the coordinator and the department of Sociology for approval - ONLY then it is approved and added onto ROSI.

I was so burdened with this last night, I am a LITTLE happy that the professor has signed the form. I will be VERY happy if the department approves it. Then I will drop my Humber Course!
