First off, my dad is the bestest dadddddybear in the world <3 I love him soooo much. I am a total daddy's girl. He spoils me and I love it. And today is his birthday. I had school from 9 am till 8 pm today. My mom apparently had work today. So, I thought I'd skip my last lecture to come home and get a cake for him at least if not more. But last night when I went to bed, I had the worst cramps EVER. I mean it. It was so cold, I slept with socks on. My room faces the front of the house and the window is gigantic and somehow my room is the coldest room in the house. I tried to sleep until 3:45 am and I couldn't. Dad woke me up around 6:00 am and I wished him Happy Birthday. Then, I decided - I have cramps, I don't feel like getting out of bed AND I need to do something about his birthday, so I went back to sleep saying I am not going to school today.
I woke up around 1 pm and I was waiting for mom to leave for work. Still in my room, checking Facebook it was 2:00 pm and she still didn't leave. So, I went outside and saw her in her nightclothes. "Uh, mom?" She gave me the cheekiest smile ever! "Your not going to work, are you?" Then she just hugged me and said "It's my husband's birthday, you think I would leave him alone today?" Like gee, thanks mom. You couldn't have told me last night so I would've attended school and not felt terribly guilty about not doing something for him.
Now that she was home, we were deciding what to do. Here's the deal, my dad HATES celebrating his birthday and does not want any gifts. During the past several years, all of us have tried gifting him stuff but it doesn't work. He either ends up returning it, or not using it and then getting mad why we brought it. So, this year he gave out instructions upon not celebrating and buying anything for him again. I suggested, forget presents then, and celebrating with family does not hurt. So, I decided to get a cake and a bottle of champagne. Now here is a very embarrassing moment I wanna share with you guys. Okay, yes I have been to LCBO a couple of times with friends. But my MOTHER, being the tradtional 'bharteeye naari' did not want to go inside. I said, "Sweetheart, you're paying, so you might as well. Or give me your master card, lol."
She decides to come inside saying, "You have to HURRY up before Desi people see us." Hahahaha.
So, I am looking around the aisles with no experience in champagne shopping. I don't even know what I picked up. I just consulted with one of the people there who helped me make a decision. Meanwhile, a bunch of Desi old uncles came inside giving us the most evil and bitchy look ever. I take joy in pissing off people who are already pissed off =D So, I started saying, "Mom, this Pink champagne here is just perfect for a girly drink, we'll take this one for us and the German one for dad." They were shaking their heads in disgust, pshtt.
My mom has not smelt, let alone touched alcohol in her life. I don't understand why Brown people are so judgmental about two Desi ladies standing inside a liqour store. How do you know who we're getting this for? My mom set foot in a liqour store first time in her life. And she was so ashamed. And there is nothing to be ashamed about. She was worried that those people are gonna go home and talk about what has become of Indian women. P-u-h-l-e-a-s-e. Give me a break here.
Sorry, this post is a bit long but I am just excited. I went out and got a small Strawberry and Chocolate Shadow cake with Vanilla icing. I spotted a matching strawberry cheesecake, that I put on top of the cake and it looks awesome! I shall be putting up pictures of everything. Mom is in the kitchen cooking, and we're also planning take-out for tonight. And everything shall be a surprise until dad comes home UNLESS he called her work and found out that she isn't working today. I hope that isn't the case. I'll let you guys know how it went later on =) I hope all of you are having a wonderful Monday (yeah right!)
