'Hack' videos are very popular on YT these days. So, I thought I will share my favorite skincare hacks. What inspired this blog post? You will find out why in my first hack.
1. Relaxing Foot Soak

My swollen feet inspired this post. As a result of walking 7 hours in uncomfortable flats yesterday, I had blisters. I had to find a quick remedy. So, I dipped my feet in hot water. You just need 2 things for the foot soak. Hot water and epsom salt. I used the Hawaiian Ginger by Calgon. I believe I got it for $7 from Walmart. I soaked my feet for half hour and it was so soothing. I also used a foot scrub while I was at it. Then, finish with a foot cream, coconut oil or body butter. As an added treat (in lieu of my birthday week), I got a 10 minute foot rub from the hubby. Salt is perfect for soothing tired and swollen feet. If you're feeling more fancy, add a couple drops of your favorite essential oil.
2. Quick Lip Scrub

I can't live without lipstick. But I hate putting lipstick on dry and chapped lips in the winter. I end up getting a layer of crusty, peeling and annoying dead skin which looks even nastier with lipstick. My favorite way to exfoliate my lips in this season is by using honey and brown sugar. You can even add a drop of coconut/olive oil or vanilla extract. Mix everything together and scrub your lips. Don't over-do the scrub. It's suitable for once or twice a week.
3. Acne scars.
I performed a skin experiment in 2014 when I had my first adult-acne experience. It lowered my morale as my cheeks were heavily covered in acne scars. After using a topical treatment which cost $200 per tube, I researched and figured out a way to heal my my own skin. I discontinued the use of makeup. I restricted my makeup to eyeliner, mascara and lipstick. No foundations or blush. No harsh cleansers. No toners. No makeup removers. I removed my makeup using olive oil.

The only 2 products I used were:
Eucerin Cleanser and
Avocado Oil. I religiously followed the same skincare routine every single day for 8 months. I used to cleanse daily with Eucerin which is safe for sensitive skin and moisturize with an organic, cold pressed Avocado Oil. Do you want to know where I got the oil? At an Italian cooking oil store. It cleared my complexion tremendously. Resisting makeup for several months and taking care of skin religiously helped a lot. I did not go to bed a single day without removing eye makeup. Even if you are beat as hell, you still have to do your skincare. Oil cleansing and moisturizing doesn't work for everyone. It depends on your skin type as well. For some, it clogs pores. Using oil extensively over several months, I noticed that it worked well for me. I broke out of the routine when my scars faded. The best thing about this routine was the fact that my scars faded over time by using the oil. Also, no one said you can't use cooking oils on your face. As long as they are natural or organic and cold pressed and packed with nutrients - they are safe to use for skincare.
4. Easy Weekly Mask.

The easiest mask which brightens my skin is using bananas. I mash up half a banana and mix it with yogurt with a little bit of warm honey. Mix well, apply and leave on for up to 15 minutes. Remove with a warm muslin cloth. Such a great mask! Why? Because bananas are packed with vitamins and potassium. You can even use this mask more than once a week. It is so refreshing and adds a glow to your skin!
5. Exfoliating Scrub.
This is an Ayurvedic scrub. Very suitable for winter skin. Mix organic extra virgin coconut oil with ground sea salt. Add your choice of essential oil. I love using lemon essential oil. To mix, put the salt in a small bowl. Add the oil and mix well with a spoon. The texture should be moist enough to hold together but not too oily. You can adjust the quantity of oil to your liking. I like to use this scrub in the shower as your pores are open with the steam and hot water. It's perfect for a home spa day.
