Flawless skin?

A single perfect foundation? Has anyone found one yet? This post is for the makeup geeks! Well, my biggest problem area has always been my skin. I have an uneven skin tone and a few blemishes on my face. And I absolutely do not make the effort to ever get help from a makeup counter to get the right shades of foundation. I see ladies standing and testing foundations on their wrist and hands. If I did that, I would probably end up with a totally wrong shade for myself. I use the tester to test it on my jawline. As far as I know, that is more appropriate to test foundation to match with your face. And I try my best doing that - but never satisfied with drug store products. I am not a regular foundation user - I use it on days that my skin really needs to be evened out.

Following are the drug store foundations I have tried so far:
Revlon ColourStay & Revlon PhotoReady - the combination of this is miraculous!
Revlon ColourStay could be used by itself for a full coverage. But PhotoReady cannot be used by itself for a full coverage (in my opinion). Using a bit of both can build a good coverage.

Maybelline Fit Me - LOVE this product! Flawless when used with another foundation.. or primer.

Almay - Truly Lasting Colour - BIG FAIL! Not suitable for dry skin and looked super cakey!

Loreal Tru Match - is buildable with other foundations and blends really well. Not sufficient by itself.

I have only tried two high end foundations - Smashbox (I forgot the name, and there's no point in recalling it because it was Limited Edition anyway), and Dior's Forever.

I can't write a review on each of the foundations but I can tell you which ones I liked the best. I gotta say the best drugstore foundation so far has been Revlon ColourStay (full coverage) if you happen to find the right shade for yourself. Also, PhotoReady could be the next one (although it was a little too cakey for me). But I am in LOVE with Maybelline FitMe!

In sum,
Revlon  ColourStay/PhotoReady (for a full coverage)
Maybelline Fit Me (medium coverage) - however, you can build it up with mixing another foundation or using a primer before it.

I was never a fan for mixing foundations but it actually works! These days, I have come up with a (non-cakey) and satisfying skin routine. I mix a drop of Dior Forever with my Maybelline Fit Me. In case you are wondering, I am a number 125 for the Fit Me. And this combination works like a miracle. I am pretty sure if you mix the Fit Me with a primer or another matching foundation would work wonders too. And to set it, I use Physician's Formula's Loose Powder (which is also a drug store product but on the higher end). And to start with, I use No 7 Day Cream as a moisturizer. And that sums up my skin routine (for the days that I actually decide to wear foundation).

The point of the post:- mixing foundations could work as long as you are using the right ones. How do you find out which one's the right one? By trying new products! I never stick with one product, whether it's a mascara or a lipstick or a foundation. But finding the duo of Dior and Maybelline (awesome), I am definitely going to re-purchase the Fit Me because I am almost out of it already :)

Hope that helped anyone that was looking to try a new foundation. Wishing all of you a nice skin day tomorrow :) Night night!

  1. I like the Revlon Colourstay. It has been my permanent foundation. It's cheap and effective. I still have to try the Fit Me. I saw it on sale at Walmart for $6 on the weekend but wasn't sure why it's priced so low. I thought the quality would be low too. I guess I'll give it a chance.
